China's first 3D TV channel makes debut in Xiamen

China launched trial operations of its first 3D TV channel at 7:30 pm on 1st January, and Xiamen is among the first batch of trial cities of the 3D TV channel, reports Xiamen Daily.

"China 3D TV pilot channel" is available at channel134. To watch the 3D programs, you will need a 3D TV set, install Capable TV's high-definition set-top-box and D glasses.

The channel will charge no viewing fees during its early phase of running, according to the Xiamen Radio and Television Network.

The channel will offer 3D programs that will include animation, sports, documentaries, TV dramas, entertainment and live broadcasts of big events such as the 2012 CCTV New Year's Gala and the London 2012 Olympic Games..

Six TV stations, China Central Television (CCTV), and those in Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu province, Shenzhen and Tianjin, will make 3D programs for the channel operated by CCTV.

After the test-run stage, the channel will be officially put into operation during the 2012 Spring Festival which falls in late January this year.

Eye experts suggest viewers limit their 3D experience to one hour at a time because too much may cause dizziness, nausea, headaches and myopia.

According to a plan announced by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, China will have 100 HD TV channels and 10 3D TV channels by the end of 2015.
